ABOUT THE TEACHERS

Hola! My name is Dayana Camacho and I'm so much happy to be part of this amazing Spanish Summer Camp. I currently work at Weddington Elementary School as a Dual Language Teacher in Kindergarten. I'm from Santa Marta, Colombia and I have a Bachelor's degree in Languages Teaching from "Universidad del Magdalena" in my country. I've been teaching for about 8 years in Elementary School and I just love teaching kids. I enjoy teaching my culture and Spanish as well other cultures around the world."

Monica Naranjo is extremely happy to be here in the United States teaching in the SPLASH program at Weddington Elementary and at Happy Kids Camp.

She is from Cali, Colombia.  She has a BA in languages: English, French, and Spanish and is a specialist in children’s literature and political and economic Euro -Latin- American relations. She is also a journalist, but loves to teach!

She is also a pet lover.  Once, she rescued ten cats at the same time, until they could be adopted by other loving families. But right now, she and her husband have a lovely springer spaniel who will be arriving from Colombia by the end of November.

She loves reading and learning about different cultures and traditions. She likes to spend her free time with her family and friends, watching movies (especially comedy, horror and romance and sleeping too!)

Luis F. Agudelo is  excited to be part of the Weddington family. He  is grateful for the great and warm welcome he and Monica have received. They really appreciate it.

He has a BA in foreign languages: English, Spanish and French. He's a specialist in supporting kids in reading and writing processes through literature and poetry, as well as in mathematical thoughts.

He loves being a teacher because it’s the opportunity to change the world. He loves spending time reading in all the languages he speaks. He love sports, specifically volleyball, hiking and running and is an animal lover. He loves literature and research. He also considers himself  an amateur photographer. Colombia is one of the countries with the  most variety of bird species so he enjoys photographing birds.

He is here with his wonderful wife, who is also working at Weddington and as he said before, we are here to give the best of us.

Cheryl Petroff joins the Happy Kids Camp with 15 years of teaching experience, with her most recent position as a 2nd grade ELA teacher in the SPLASH program.  She has her Master’s Degree from St. Joseph College in Connecticut, majoring in Elementary Education with a Language Arts focus. She is excited to share her expertise with the students while incorporating The 7 Habits of Happy Kids series by Sean Covey.  She currently resides in Waxhaw.
