2017 Week 5 Review
Habit 5 — Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Listen Before You Talk: I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking.

In Spanish they began by reading Lily and the Yucky Cookies by Sean Covey. On a rainy day, Lily wants to make cookies. But instead of paying attention to the recipe, she tells her dad she knows what she is doing. When Lily’s friends spit out her cookies, she wonders what went wrong! They discussed how important it is to feel heard, but it’s just as important to understand and hear others.

Senora Naranjo also read a beautiful book named MALAIKA. This story is about a princess, an African princess, daughter of Komba and Nary two majestic animals. This is an interactive book afterwards they created mandalas, octopuses, sea animals and painted trees.

This week Senor Agudelo joined us on Thursday and we know how much kids love slime, so they made clear slime with beads in it, it had an interesting texture. The kids worked on two Circuit Maker Skill builder projects. If you are not familiar with it, Snap Circuits use building blocks with snaps to build different electrical and electronic circuit programs. Each block has a different function and they are coded. They easily snap them together to form a circuit. They built projects with lights, fans, speakers and other accessories.

Ms. Petroff read, “Jumper and the Lost Butterfly Net” by Sean Covey. Students discussed how people can communicate in different ways.  They played the "Clapping Game" where an item was hidden and a child communicated by clapping quickly when others were close to an object.

Students also practiced communication and listening skills by playing "Telephone".

To end the lesson, students created a picture of themselves with large ears that represented them being good listeners to friends.  To incorporate writing, students then wrote what their friend said to them :)

They also played outside with Senora Naranjo and Senor Agudelo, participated in Cosmic Kids Yoga, Just Dance videos and we made a human knot! They had lot’s of fun climbing over each other!

We believe  that speaking multiple languages is important. Every child should be empowered to develop into their authentic selves. Through the Leader in Me program and interactive learning projects, your children will not only come home from camp speaking Spanish but they will come home happy!
